MMDA to motorists: Number coding back in effect Thursday

With Undas (All Saints' and All Souls' Days) now over, the number coding scheme is in effect again, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority reminded motorists Thursday. In messages posted on its Twitter account, the MMDA reminded motorists vehicles with plate numbers ending in 7 and 8 would be banned from major thoroughfares from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. "Number coding is implemented," it said in response to several tweets asking if the number coding was still lifted Thursday. The number coding scheme seeks to lessen congestion in Metro Manila's major thoroughfares by barring vehicles at peak hours, depending on their plate numbers. Last Friday, the MMDA said the number coding scheme would be lifted from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2. Even Makati and Las Piñas Cities, which do not always lift their number coding schemes, did so during the recent long weekend. — LBG, GMA News
