Pinay breast cancer survivor in UAE seeks help for son

A Filipino worker who survived breast cancer in the United Arab Emirates(UAE) is saddled with a new problem: how to send her 11-year-old son to school after missing two years of schooling. Gulf News reported that the 11-year-old boy, who should now be in Grade Five, could not even enter Grade III because his mother, who does not have a regular job, cannot send him to school. A Dubai school offered to admit the boy at a nominal fee until the mother can find another job but he remains stuck at home as his previous school in Abu Dhabi have not yet been released, the report said. The previous school - shut down by the Abu Dhabi government - refuses to release the boy's records without paying the balance of 6,000 Dirhams. The report said the mother's offer to pay in installments has been declined. Gulf News said the boy's father, an Arab man, had left them in 2001. The report said the boy has been having nightmares and has been unable to sleep until 5:00 a.m., with the thought that no school will accept him. - VVP, GMA News
