Cops: Ram GF's story backs sibling rivalry angle in slay

The testimony of the girlfriend of slain Ramgen "Ram" Revilla, half-brother of Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., supports the "sibling-rivalry" angle on the murder that took place in the victim's Parañaque City home, the head of the police task force investigating the incident said Thursday. Task Force Ramgen head Chief Superintendent Enrique Sy said Janelle Manahan, who survived the attack, recounted to the police how masked gunmen entered her boyfriend’s home on Friday night minutes after she opened the door for Ram’s sister, Ramona Bautista. “Nakuhanan na rin namin siya [Manahan] ng pahayag at lalong tumibay ang kaso namin laban kay Ramona," he said in an interview with GMA News TV’s News To Go . Sy likewise quoted Manahan as saying that she asked Ramona to call an ambulance after the shooting, but Ramona allegedly never came back. “Hiningan niya ng tulong si Ramona sa loob ng kwarto nila noong may tama na sila ng bala. Pagkatapos ng insidente, pinakukuha niya ng ambulansya at tulong pero hindi na bumalik si Ramona," he said.

At a separate press conference, Parañaque police chief Senior Superintendent Billy Beltran said Ramona’s earlier statements were “inconsistent" with Manahan’s testimony. Ramona earlier claimed that she was kidnapped by her brother’s assailants after the shooting and was later abandoned in Las Piñas City. Investigators however said that Ramona may have only faked the kidnapping, since she allegedly conspired with her younger brother, Ramon Joseph or RJ, to kill Ram due to sibling rivalry. Envy? Sy said envy may have prompted RJ to hire the gunmen and plot the killing of his brother. “Parang naiinggit yata ang kapatid niya kay Ramgen dahil siya ang paborito ng Revilla," he said. He, however, denied reports that the P1-million monthly allowance of the siblings was the root of the crime. “Wala po kaming sinasabing ganyan at walang witnesses ma magsasabing ganyan ang pinagkagalitan nila. Basta mayroon lang silang personal na alitan na magkakapatid."
RJ and Ramona have already been slapped with murder and frustrated murder complaints for their brother’s killing and the attack on Manahan, respectively. RJ was arrested last Tuesday, while Ramona remains at large after police stopped operations against the suspects due to the filing of the case. Members of the Revilla clan, including Senator Revilla, however, cast doubts on the results of the police probe, even calling for a reinvestigation of the incident. Genelyn Magsaysay, mother of Ram, RJ and Ramona, also said her children would not resort to murder to settle their differences. She said she raised them as God-fearing people. Sy said the police respects the Revilla clan’s opinion, while maintaining that the case against siblings RJ and Ramona is solid. “Nauunawaan po namin sila. Nakikiramay po kami dahil very tragic po ang naging insidente," he said. Members of Task Force Ramgen and the Parañaque City police also held a case conference on Thursday morning to consolidate all physical evidence and testimonies gathered regarding Ram’s murder. — LBG/KBK/HS, GMA News
