Apple fixes batt life problem with iOS 5.0.1 beta

Shortly after acknowledging problems with battery life on devices running its iOs 5 operating system, Apple Inc. has seeded a beta of an update that could fix the problem. Apple's iOS 5.0.1 Beta also offers new features such as multitasking gestures and improved voice recognition, enthusiast sites reported. Tech site Boy Genius Reports said the improvements and other bug fixes include:

  • Fixes to bugs affecting battery life
  • Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
  • Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
  • Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
  • Contains security improvements
Apple earlier said it had found problems leading some iPhone customers to experience less-than-expected battery life with iPhones running its latest software. “A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices. We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks," Apple said in a statement to All Things Digital. But AllThingsD said Apple declined to comment beyond the statement. Meanwhile, BGR also said iOS 5.0.1 beta introduces a new way for developers to specify files that should remain on the device, even in low storage situations. A separate article on tech site Mashable said the prerelease version of iOS 5.0.1 will apply to the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. — TJD, GMA News
