DOH seeks help of LGUs in anti-firecrackers campaign

The Department of Health (DOH) will work with local government units (LGUs) on a campaign to discourage Filipinos from using firecrackers to welcome Christmas and the New Year. DOH Secretary Enrique Ona said he intends to meet with LGUs to flesh out the details of the campaign, radio dwIZ reported on Friday. Ona said he would ask LGUs to establish public zones where people may safely light firecrackers, the report said. The dwIZ report said the DOH expects to launch the campaign within two weeks. In past years, health officials have launched anti-fireworks campaigns near the end of the year to minimize fireworks-related injuries as revelers celebrate Christmas and the New Year. - VVP, GMA News
