Cops take suspect in Charice dad's murder to prosecutor's office

A day after he surrendered to authorities, a construction worker who stabbed dead the father of international singing sensation Charice was brought to the provincial prosecutor's office in Laguna Friday to be charged. Police had readied charges against Angel Capili Jr. for the fatal stabbing of Ricky Pempengco, 43, before midnight of Oct. 31, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported. Security was tight for Capili, with San Pedro police covering his head with a piece of cloth and two police escorts beside him. On Thursday, Capili surrendered to authorities in Cavite and asked that he and his family not be hurt. He insisted he attacked Pempengco in self-defense. an initial investigation showed Capili stabbed Pempengco while the victim was buying cigarettes from a store. Capili went into hiding but surfaced after a P200,000 reward was put out for his arrest. — LBG, GMA News
