PNoy to get makeover plan for NAIA

A makeover plan for the for Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) — tagged as the “world’s worst airport" — will be presented to President Benigno Aquino III next Tuesday, the President said in an interview Friday on YouTube. “A plan for it, improving both structurally and aesthetically, would be presented to me by Tuesday next week," Aquino said in his interview over YouTube’s World View. One YouTube user asked the President about his plan to improve the condition of NAIA which was named after his father, the late Senator and democracy icon Benigno Aquino Jr. The President said NAIA “has suffered the ravages of time," as it is already a 30-year old structure. The makeover plan is a stopgap measure for the next four or five years, Aquino noted without saying where the plan will come from or who crafted it. “The whole complex was designed for 32 million arrivals, or 32 million people who will be utilizing it and it is now approaching 30 million…" Aquino said. “It would take a lot of expropriation proceedings delaying the whole process of getting for instance a new target of 10 million tourists into the country," he added. Aquino, the first Asian head of state to participate in YouTube’s World View, was interviewed by Ross LeJounesse, head for public policy and government affairs-Asia Pacific of Google. Aquino was also asked about his plans for Filipinos working abroad, his view on reproductive health bill and even if he believe in Santa Claus and what would be his wish, among others. Other world leaders interviewed on YouTube’s World View were US President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Spain Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. World View is a series of monthly interviews with the world leaders where YouTube users ask and rate the questions. The top-rated questions are asked in live interviews. — VS, GMA News
