Customs chief takes LRT, MRT to catch meeting

Customs Commissioner Rozzano Rufino Biazon became an endorser of sorts for the Light and Metro Rail Transit systems (LRT, MRT) after he took the elevated trains to get to a meeting in Metro Manila late Friday. In posts on his Twitter account, Biazon said he had to take the MRT to get to a meeting in Quezon City, all the way from Manila. "Late for a meeting and traffic is bad... decided to take LRT [and then] MRT," he said. He said using the LRT/MRT "shaved off a good deal" of his travel time from Manila to Quezon City.. Biazon got off at the EDSA-Ortigas Interchange. He posted photos of his adventure on his Twitter account the LRT and MRT. Biazon said he got on the LRT at its United Nations Avenue station. It was not immediately clear if he had security escorts or if he was given special treatment at the LRT and MRT stations. But according to him, it was not the first time he had taken rides on the LRT and MRT trains while in government service. "I've been riding the MRT even when I was a congressman, especially when pressed for time," he said. Some netizens were impressed with his act, with at least one saying it was "cool to see VIPs" riding the MRT – "(so) you would see the need for improvements in our railway system." Another suggested that he take the LRT-2 from Manila to Cubao in Quezon City next time. The MRT and LRT had been criticized in recent months for the glitches that marred their operations. In some cases, the glitches caused long delays. — LBG, GMA News
