Security measures in place for Bar exams

Police have put in place tight security measures for Sunday’s start of the Bar examinations at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. The Manila Police District said its personnel will start patrolling the UST campus and nearby areas as early as Saturday night, according to a report on Balitanghali. MPD head Senior Superintendent Alex Gutierrez said K-9 units will also be deployed to the area to sniff out weapons or explosives. On the other hand, the report said supporters of the Bar examinees will not be allowed to loiter especially along the España Avenue area. However, the report also quoted Gutierrez as saying there will be no rerouting of traffic for the Bar exams. A separate report on dzXL radio said the MPD will deploy 100 personnel to the UST area starting Saturday night. To augment them will be agents of the National Bureau of Investigation and village officials. Some 6,200 law graduates will take the 2011 Bar examinations starting Sunday. The exams will take place during the four Sundays of November. The tightened security measures stemmed from an incident last year where more than 40 people were wounded in a grenade attack at the De La Salle University along Taft Avenue. — LBG, GMA News
