Palace exec gives traders Xmas business tip

With Christmas fast approaching, Malacañang appealed to traders Saturday not to jack up the prices of their wares. Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda even gave traders a business tip for the season: sell cheap, but go for volume. “Knowing it’s the Christmas season, people tend to be more generous. Why not sell at lower prices, with the aim of selling more of the items? Your goal would be to sell a big volume," Lacierda said on government-run dzRB radio. He also said traders should get into the spirit of the season and be “giving" in the prices of their wares. “Christmas is a season of giving. Hopefully businessmen will be giving in their prices. Let’s not take advantage of the Christmas season," he said. In the meantime, he said the Trade Department will monitor prices of goods, as well as holiday-related items such as Christmas lights. “Rest assured we will prevent unscrupulous businessmen from selling potentially dangerous wares," he said. On the other hand, Lacierda appealed to consumers to make sure such products have the proper safety seals like the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) seal. The lack of such seals is a danger sign and may place one’s family in danger as it may cause fires, he said. “Let’s not sacrifice the lives of family members because it’s cheaper. Malaking peligro yan kung bibili tayo yun pala nakakasunog, ingat tayo dyan," he said. — LBG, GMA News
