Four children hurt in Valenzuela City explosion


At least four children were reported injured in an explosion near a residential compound in Valenzuela City before dawn on Monday. The police have taken into custody a 43-year-old man who allegedly lighted the materials that caused the explosion, radio dzBB reported early Monday. The report said the incident occurred at the Mendoza Compound in Bahay Pari in Valenzuela City. A seven-year-old girl was reported to be in critical condition. Her two siblings, aged 5 and 9, were also injured. Another boy, aged 6, was also injured. Now in custody is a certain "Jose," 43, who allegedly lighted a pile of garbage that contained "explosives." The initial investigation showed the children were passing by the area when debris from the explosion hit them. Recovered from the area were a blasting cap, copper tubes, and green cloth. - VVP, GMA News
