Philcoa exec killed in ambush in Quezon


A provincial manager of the Philippine Coconut Authority was gunned down in an ambush by motorcycle-riding men in Quezon province Tuesday. Lucena City police head Superintendent Ramon Balaug cited initial reports describing the fatality as a 62-year-old male manager of the agency's Batangas office. "Kanina pa ang hot pursuit operations, maigting ang ating police visibility. Tuloy-tuloy ang pursuit," Balaug said in an interview on dzBB radio. He cited initial reports indicating the ambush occurred along a road between Batangas and Lucena City. Recovered from the scene were three shells and a slug of a cal-.45 pistol. When asked if the victim had received threats to his life before he was killed, Balaug said, "initially may lumalabas na meron."
