Immigrants becoming unwanted in US?

A report of a leading Filipino-American newspaper in the United States on Tuesday said, "Immigrants are getting unwanted in America." "As Arizona and Alabama and other states passed harsh laws on immigrants, Pennsylvania, where many Filipinos reside, is ready to pass bills against illegal immigrants that would allow police to arrest suspected undocumented immigrants," wrote Contessa Rita Bourbon of "The Filipino Express." The report said immigrants face harsher lives in Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina and other states which passed "anti-illegal immigration law, that increased the number of immigrant deportees." Lawmakers in Pennsylvania are preparing to pass the "National Security Begins at Home" legislation or bills against illegal immigrants. According to the website of the "State legislators for legal immigration," the all-encompassing National Security Begins at Home Illegal Immigration Reform Package is made up of "five bills that would shut off public benefits, employment access, and other economic faucets contributing to Pennsylvania’s illegal immigrant invasion." The five bills are:

  • Requiring Mandatory Employer Enrollment in the Federal Social Security Basic Pilot New Employee Verification Program (House Bill 750);
  • Negotiating Law Enforcement Memorandum of Understanding (House Bill 751);
  • Maintaining Criminal History Records of Previously Detained Illegal Immigrants (House Bill 752);
  • Terminating the Professional License of Any Employer That Knowingly Hires An Illegal Alien (House Bill 753)
  • Eliminating All Non-Medical Emergency, Public Benefits for Illegal Aliens (House Bill 754) In the Filipino Express report, State Representative Daryl Metcalfe , a Republican said illegal immigrants, "a pain to taxpayers," steal jobs from Americans. Immigrant advocates, however, criticized the bill as discriminatory as it would prejudice against other legal immigrants. - VVP, GMA News
