Fil-Viet Nguyen advances into ITF Women's Circuit 2nd round

Filipino-Vietnamese Tamitha Nguyen showed great endurance in posting a hard-earned 6-0, 6-7 (4), 6-4 win over China's Zhou Ya in the 2011 Smart–ITF Women’s Circuit Week 1 Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. Nguyen and Ya played under the scorching afternoon sun but it was the former who showed enough guts peppering the Chinese bet with her forehand attacks in the third set to follow Filipino netters Anna Clarice Patrimonio, Marian Jade Capadocia and Fil-German Katharina Lehnert in the second round. "It’s very exhausting [during the match] but I was able to adjust from her serves and managed to return her attacks too," said Nguyen, who has a Vietnamese father and a Filipino mother. Favorites Patrimonio, Capadocia and Lehnert moved to the second round on Tuesday by beating their separate rivals in the week-long tournament. South Korea's Sung Kim Hae, American Sylvia Krywacz and Thailand's Peangtarn Plipuech also earned second round berths. Sung downed compatriot Seung Yeon Hong, 7-6 (2), 6-0; Krywacz was leading 6-2, 4-1 when Chinese Taipei's Ting Fei Juan retired while Plipuech defeated Korean Ju Eun Kim, 6-0, 6-1. — JVP, GMA News
