Roach: Floyd Jr is Pacquiao's only worthy challenger

It's the fight boxing fans have all been waiting for and it's the match Freddie Roach believes should happen by next year. Only one real worthy opponent has yet to stand in the way of pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and Roach said it's about time that Floyd Mayweather Jr. finally agreed to face the Filipino boxing superstar. "No one that I'm really interested in. I don't see any challenges," said Roach of the possible opponents for Pacquiao by 2012. Except of course, for boxing's modern-day villain. "I think that fight has to happen. It needs to happen," stressed Roach, Pacquiao's long-time trainer. The bout, many predicted to go down as the richest in the history of the spot, had been shelved twice owing to the disagreement on whether random style drug-testing should be administered on both Pacquiao and Mayweather. But when Pacquiao appeared to have finally relented on Mayweather's request for both of them to undergo Olympic-style drug testing, the brash-talking American came up with a new reason in what some saw as an obvious attempt to dodge the fight. Roach said it's a matter of Mayweather, the five-time division champion and reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title holder, just answering whether he wants to fight Pacquiao or not. "I'm kinda full of it to be honest with you. Just shut up and fight us or not," he said. "He (Mayweather) wants to make the rules, he wants to dictate everything. We'll fight him any day of the week. Who the fu%#& he is to make the rules?" Refusing to take on the best fighter of his time could also prove to be a big blot on Floyd Jr's immaculate record which stands at 42-0 with 26 knockouts as of today. "I think there'll be a question mark on his undefeated record because he didn't fight the best. He fights little guys," said Roach. "I'm just getting tired of it. If that fight doesn't happen, I'm not going to regret it," he said. — JVP, GMA News
