DTI, Customs start inspections of Xmas items in Divisoria malls

Inspectors from the Department of Trade and Industry and Bureau of Customs made the rounds of stores in Manila's Divisoria district Thursday to check for any overpriced or substandard Christmas-related items. The inspection teams managed to seize some substandard Christmas lights from the first few stores they inspected, radio dzBB reported. DTI Secretary Gregory Domingo personally led the inspection while police secured the area, the report added. At the Tutuban Mall, inspectors checked the price and quality of Noche Buena food items to see if they were overpriced. The DTI earlier said it is posting guide prices for Noche Buena food items in time for the holiday season. On the other hand, the DTI warned against substandard Christmas lights that may overheat and cause fires. — RSJ, GMA News
