Singapore court starts hearing case of Pinay stabbed to death

A Singapore court has started hearings on the case of a 30-year-old Filipino woman who died after getting stabbed 10 times in different parts of the body, a newspaper in the island nation reported Wednesday. According to a report of the Straits Times on Wednesday, the incident happened at dawn on March 15 last year but the court only heard the case on Tuesday. The Straits Times quoted Deputy Public Prosecutor Andre Jumabhoy as saying the attack, allegedly committed by an Indian, was "nasty, brutish and short." The report said the suspect did not deny stabbing the victim but claims he acted under grave and serious provocation. A report on the Filipinos Abroad website said the victim died from excessive bleeding from a stab wound to her heart but two other injuries could have also killed her. When the suspect was arrested three days after the attack, he was found to be carrying the victim's mobile phone and some bloodstained money. The suspect's DNA was later found on some items in the room where the victim died, such as a pink brassiere, a pair of denim pants, and a brown wallet. The DNA of four unknown men were also found in two used condoms. The arrested suspect will be sentenced to hang if convicted of murder. - VVP, GMA News
