MMDA impounds 90 colorum buses

At least 90 buses whose franchises were suspended or revoked due to last year's bus strike were brought to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's impounding lot Thursday night. MMDA traffic discipline office OIC Yves Gonzalez said 33 of the buses were brought to Las Piñas in what he called the "longest anti-colorum convoy" he had been part of so far. "The longest anti-colorum convoy I've been part of so far: 33 buses headed to Las Piñas MMDA Impounding Lot," he said on his Twitter account. Gonzalez said that as of Thursday afternoon, they managed to apprehend 90 buses. While 33 were brought to Las Piñas, he said the rest were impounded at ULTRA 1 and 2. Worse, he said he had to pay for the toll of some of the buses at Las Piñas, although he did not say how much he had to shell out. He said the conductors of some of the buses left, leaving them to the MMDA. Gonzalez said that while official vehicles like MMDA mobiles and motorcycles are "toll-free," the buses they had in tow "all need to pay" toll. "Abonado pa ko sa toll nung mga buses (I had to pay for the toll of the buses). Toink toink toink," he tweeted. The MMDA was ordered Thursday afternoon to apprehend buses whose franchises were revoked or suspended due to last year's bus strike. — ELR, GMA News
