PAGASA: Wind system to bring rain over Mindanao in 24 hours

An inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) may bring rain to parts of Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Friday. In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the ITCZ is affecting Mindanao and may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms there. "Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening," it said. PAGASA also said moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the southeast will prevail over Extreme Northern Luzon and the coastal waters will be moderate to occasionally rough. Meanwhile, PAGASA maintained the ridge of maritime high pressure is behind the hot weather in parts of Luzon in recent days. "Most part of Luzon is under the influence of the Ridge of Maritime High Pressure area which is characterized by a warm and humid air mass," it said. In turn, this is attributed to the La Niña weather phenomenon, characterized by rain and flooding, it added. However, it said a weak intrusion of cooler air mass is expected Saturday or Sunday. — LBG, GMA News
