PNoy in Hawaii to attend 19th APEC Summit

President Aquino left Friday afternoon for Honolulu, Hawaii, to attend the 19th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Week. He expects discussions to focus on the impact of the economic woes in the United States and Europe, and the conflict in parts of the Middle East and North Africa in the Asia Pacific Region. Aquino said he hopes to continue to promote the Philippines as a strong trade relation partner and at the same time strengthen the ties between the country and the 20 other member nation of APEC. He said that at the side line of the November 8 to 13 Summit is his bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Aquino while in Hawaii would also meet with the Filipino community to personally listen to their concerns as well as check on their situation there. The President was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, Transportation and Communication Secretary Mar Roxas, Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo, Energy Secretary Rene Almendras and Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda. "Apart from the APEC Leaders meeting and discussions on growth and jobs, regulatory reforms and competitiveness, energy efficiency and security, Aquino will also attend the APEC CEO Summit and meet with the APEC Business Advisory Council Dialogue. "Sa pagbalik po natin dito sa Pilipinas sa darating na Martes, tiwala akong uuwi tayo nang may mas matibay na ugnayan sa mga karatig-bansa at may bitbit na mas maraming pagkakataon para sa ating mga kababayan," said the President who is set to return on November 15. — RAJMD/ELR, GMA News
