PAGASA: New potential cyclone may form next week

A potential cyclone off northern Luzon dissolved early Saturday but the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration expects a new one to form sometime this coming week. In the meantime, PAGASA said an inter-tropical convergence zone may bring rain to Mindanao in the next 24 hours. "Our models show a new low-pressure area may form sometime next week, though it is still far from Philippine territory," PAGASA forecaster Jun Galang said in an interview on dzBB radio. Earlier, PAGASA said it expects two cyclones to enter or form inside Philippine territory in November. Meanwhile, PAGASA said an ITCZ may affect Mindanao and bring rain over the area in the next 24 hours. "Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. It said moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the southeast will prevail over Extreme Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to occasionally rough. Light to moderate winds coming from the northeast to east wiill prevail over the rest of Luzon and Visayas and coming from the northeast to north over Mindanao. The coastal waters along these areas will be slight to moderate, it said. — LBG, GMA News
