QC to crack down on shady pay-per-view showing of Pacquiao fight

Inspection teams will go around Quezon City Sunday to crack down on fly-by-night pay-per-view (PPV) showings of the bout between Filipino boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel “Manny" Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. The city inspection teams will check restaurants and malls showing the PPVs to see if they have the required special permits, radio dzBB’s Denver Trinidad reported. City officials said the establishments offering PPV showings will be closed down if they do not have the permits. The permits show the establishments are to pay the appropriate amusement taxes to the city, the report said. As of Saturday, the report said at least 18 commercial establishments in the city have special permits to show the Pacquiao-Marquez bout. On Friday, the Optical Media Board appealed to traders not to make pirated copies of the bout. Pacquiao and Marquez both made the 144-lb catch weight for their bout on Sunday (in Manila). Sunday’s bout will mark the third time the two fighters faced each other inside the ring since 2004. — LBG, GMA News
