Weather disturbance approaching PHL

An inter-tropical convergence zone may bring rain to parts of Eastern Visayas and Mindanao on Sunday, even as a weather disturbance continues to approach Philippine territory. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) added rain may fall in the afternoon and evening in other parts of the country. “Eastern Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. Also, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Extreme Northern Luzon and coming from the northeast to north over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, it added. Earlier, PAGASA said most of Luzon may expect cold winds from the amihan (northeast monsoon) starting Sunday or Monday. Meanwhile, weather site Typhoon2000.com said a weather disturbance near Guam may affect the Philippines early this week. “Various models depict the system to be a strong low-pressure area or minimal tropical depression passing along the Visayas on Tuesday-Wednesday time frame," it said. Should the disturbance become a cyclone in Philippine territory, it will be locally codenamed “Sendong." On the other hand, PAGASA had said it expects two cyclones to affect the Philippines in November. In an interview on dzBB last Saturday, PAGASA forecaster Jun Galang said: “May nabubuo [na low-pressure area] pero medyo may kalayuan pa, mga next week siguro," (Our models show a new low-pressure area may form sometime next week, though it is still far from Philippine territory." — LBG, GMA News
