Palawan river, ibinoto bilang isa sa 7 New Wonders of Nature

Nakamtam ng Puerto Princesa Underground River sa Palawan ang isa sa pinakamaraming boto para sa New 7 Wonders of Nature. Inihayag ng New7Wonders Foundation ang inisyal na resulta nitong Sabado mula sa naganap na botohan via text messaging at Internet. Ilalabas ng grupo ang opisyal na resulta sa darating na 2012, matapos nilang pag-aralan ang kinalabasan ng botohan. Matapos ihayag ang opisyal na resulta, inaasahang tataas ang turismo sa Pilipinas. Maliban sa Palawan river, kabilang din ang Amazon, Halong Bay, Iguazu Falls, Jeju Island, Komodo, at Table Mountain sa may pinakamatas na nakuha sa inisyal na botohan. Naisip ng tagapagtaguyod ng New7Wonders na si Bernard Weber na gawan ng modern version ang Seven Ancient Wonders. "The new wonders that have been selected are the people’s choices," ayon sa grupo. The goal of the new Wonders of Nature is to "bring our natural heritage onto the same level of appreciation as those which have been made by humans," dagdag pa nito. "We congratulate each of these participants on achieving their provisional New7Wonders of Nature status, and look forward to completing the confirmation process to celebrate each one in their own official inauguration ceremony early in 2012," ayon sa New7Wonders Foundation. "It may happen that one or more of the provisional winners announced today will not be confirmed during the validation process," ayon sa grupo. "New7Wonders will issue a media update should this happen." Botohan, pinamunuan ng gobyerno Sa Pilipinas, pinamunuan ng gobyerno ang kampanya upang iboto ang Puerto Princesa Underground River bilang bahagi ng New Seven Wonders of Nature. Pinamunuan mismo ni Pangulong Benigno Aquino III ang Internet at text voting para sa Palawan river nitong Hunyo. Mahigit 42,000 na barangay ang nakibahagi sa isang synchronized text voting nitong Oktubre. "Sa tulong ng mga barangay, sigurado na panalo na ang Puerto Princesa Underground River," pahayag ni Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo. Maaaring tumaas ang turismo ng bansa matapos mapabahagi sa New Seven Wonders of Nature. Ayon naman kay Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, "We deserve a visit from the world." Dahil sa katampok-tampok na katangian nito, tinaguriang United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site ang Puerto Princesa Underground River noong December 1999.
