Cheers, jeers for Pacquiao after bout on Twitter

After Manny Pacquiao’s close win over Juan Manuel Marquez in a majority decision to retain his WBO Welterweight crown on Sunday (Manila time), boxing fans in Las Vegas and around the world had mixed reaction toward the decision, with many believing the Mexican to be the better fighter, while others defended the Pinoy boxing champ. The announcement of the decision after the match was met by violent reactions from Marquez's supporters. According to a tweet of celebrity Ruffa Gutierrez, who watched the match at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, “Pinoys are being harassed by the Mexicans. Please pray for peace and NO VIOLENCE. Boxing is a sport meant for entertainment." Meanwhile, aside from Mexicans, some Filipinos and fans expressed their disagreement with Pacquiao's win via Twitter.

On the other hand, celebrities defended the boxing champ also via Twitter. According to CompuBox, Pacquiao landed 176 of 578 punches while Marquez connected on 138 of 436 punches. Pacquiao had a 117-100 edge in power shots. —MRT/KBK, GMA News
