Again, PNP records zero crime during Pacquiao-Marquez bout

No crime incidents happened during the 12-round match between Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and Mexican challenger Juan Manual Marquez on Sunday (Manila time), the Philippine National Police said (PNP). “Everything virtually stood still starting at 1 p.m. when both fighters went up to the ring for a shot at the world title," the PNP said in a statement after the boxing match in Las Vegas, Nevada. PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome commended police units for remaining vigilant during the fight. He also congratulated Pacquiao for his victory. Pacquiao won his third fight against Marquez and retained the World Boxing Organization welterweight crown via a majority decision from the judges after the 12-round bout. In 2008, the PNP also noted a zero-crime rate during the second fight between Pacquiao and Marquez. The Filipino boxer won this match via a split decision. The PNP, however, said that three crime incidents took place hours before the Pacquiao-Marquez fight. A brand of cargo and courier service LBC in Catbalogan, Samar was robbed by still unidentified suspects at 12:35 p.m., the police said. In Manila, a motorcycle was stolen outside the Del Pan Sports Center, while members of the Salisi Gang victimized a Canadian tourist at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) complex about two hours before the fight, according to the police. - Andreo C.
