Weather: Potential cyclone enters PHL
A potential cyclone — a low-pressure area — entered Philippine territory early Monday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. PAGASA forecaster Jun Galang said the LPA is at the boundary of the Philippine area of responsibility, embedded along the inter-tropical convergence zone. "Meron tayong binabantayang LPA, ito ay nasa boundary ng PAR line (We are now tracking the LPA. It is at the boundary of the Philippine area of responsibility)," Galang said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said it was estimated at 700 km east of Southern Mindanao as of 2 a.m., embedded in the ITCZ affecting the Visayas and Mindanao. But Galang did not say if the LPA would become a cyclone. If the LPA intensifies into a cyclone, it will be locally codenamed "Sendong." Earlier, PAGASA said it expects two cyclones to enter Philippine territory in November. Flash floods, landslides PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin said Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Eastern and Central Visayas and Northern Mindanao, which may trigger flash floods and landslides. It added the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. At the same time, light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and the Visayas and coming from the northeast to east over Mindanao. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate. — RSJ, GMA News
