Manila plans motorcade for Pacquiao

Notwithstanding the controversy surrounding his latest win, Filipino boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao may get a victory motorcade in Manila upon his return to the Philippines. The Manila city government is coordinating with Pacquiao's staff on the details of the motorcade, radio dzBB's Cecilia Villarosa reported. Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim said the activity aims to show Pacquiao the city's appreciation for his latest achievement, a win over Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez. Controversy surrounded Pacquiao's win over Marquez Sunday (Manila time), which allowed Pacquiao to keep his World Boxing Organization welterweight title. Judge Robert Hoyle saw the fight even, 114-114, while Dave Moretti and Glenn Trowbridge scored 115-113 and 116-112, respectively, for Pacquiao. Despite the majority decision in his favor, Pacquiao's victory was not definitive. Marquez appeared to be in control of the fight through the first nine rounds, opening a cut that bloodied the right side of the Filipino congressman's face. It was the third meeting in the ring between Pacquiao and Marquez since 2004. Their first meeting ended up in a controversial draw, while the second ended in a split decision in favor of the General Santos City native. Sarangani welcome The Manila city government's preparations are aside from those being made by Sarangani for its congressman. In his past victories, Pacquiao would receive a hero's welcome upon his return to the country, and attend a thanksgiving Mass in Quiapo before making a courtesy call to Malacañang. On several occasions, he would also take part in a victory motorcade around the city to greet well-wishers. — RSJ, GMA News
