Despite controversy, Lapid files reso commending Pacquiao


Despite the controversy surrounding Manny Pacquiao's victory over his Mexican nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez, Sen. Lito Lapid on Monday filed a resolution seeking to congratulate and commend the Filipino boxing icon. Senate Resolution No. 635 seeks to congratulate and commend Pacquiao for successfully defending on his World Boxing Organization welterweight title via majority decision against Marquez in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday (Manila time). "Octuple champion and People's Champ Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao once again made the country proud when he emerged victorious in his match against Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez," Lapid said in the resolution. "By winning this fight, [Pacquiao] has shown to the world the unrelenting spirit of Filipino competitiveness and excellence. This outstanding performance by our Filipino boxer deserves to be commended for the honor and recognition he has brought to the our country," he added. Pacquiao defeated Marquez via majority decision, but a lot of boxing fans worldwide, including Filipinos, felt it was Marquez who should have been declared winner.
