NDRRMC: 1 dead, 2 missing due to rain from potential cyclone


At least one person was killed while one was injured in a landslide in Aklan province in the wake of rain caused by a potential cyclone or low-pressure area (LPA), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Wednesday. In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC identified the fatality as Nemia Cuales, who it said died in a landslide in Sitio Bangbang in Calizo, Balete, Aklan. The NDRRMC also said one Efren Cuales was injured in the Aklan incident. As this developed, the NDRRMC said the National Highway near Pagsanghan-Venturanza Bridge going to Balete is impassable to all types of vehicles due to flooding. The NDRRMC also said Balete Bridge is impassable to all types of vehicles. On the other hand, the NDRRMC said 19-year-old Brian Reyes was feared dead after he went missing while fishing at a former quarry site in Barnagay La Paz in Bamban, Tarlac at 1 p.m. Tuesday. In Bicol, a minor landslide injured one Gliceria delos Santos, 66, at Marambong village in Pandan town in Catanduanes. Pandang and Busay-Culliat Road Sections are flooded but still passable, it added. In Capiz province in Western Visayas, Brgy. Tumalalud Road in Mambusao town, going to Jamindan is impassable to light vehicles due to floodwaters. Some barangays of the municipalities of Jamindan, Mambusao, and Sigma were flooded, mostly in the rice field areas. No evacuation was reported. The NDRRMC said the rain affected 58 villages in nine towns in Capiz and Aklan. As of Wednesday, no electric power in six villages of Balete, Aklan, indlucing Poblacion, Calizo, Feliciano, Aranas, Cortes, and Morales. — LBG, GMA News
