Hillary Clinton: I am a major Pacquiao fan

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was in the Philippines for a two-day visit, on Wednesday described the win of Filipino boxing champion and Sarangani Rep Manny Pacquiao against Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez as a “great victory." In her speech after a bilateral meeting with President Benigno Aquino III and signing of the Partnership for Growth agreement in Malacañang, Clinton admitted that she is a fan of Pacquiao, who is also a lawmaker representing Sarangani province. “We know that Pacman had another great victory. I am a major Pacman fan," she said. Pacquiao’s victory was marred with controversy after boxing analysts aired opposing opinions on how the judges should have scored the fight. Marquez himself believed that he was robbed of the victory. Clinton used Pacquiao’s sport to express the United States’ support to the Philippine government. “In the spirit of his sport and his success, let me say that United States will always be in the corner of the Philippines. We will always stand and fight with you to achieve the future we seek," she said. No comment on Arroyo On the other hand, Clinton refused to comment on the present predicament of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, whom the government barred from leaving the country despite a temporary restraining order issued by the Supreme Court stopping the implementation of the watch list order against her and her husband, Jose Miguel. “This is obviously a matter for the authorities of the Philippine government and all of its branches and it will not be appropriate for me as a Secretary of State to comment any further," she said. Clinton's husband, former US President Bill Clinton, was a classmate of Arroyo at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C.- KBK, GMA News
