Weather: Potential cyclone moves near Zambales

A low-pressure area earlier considered a potential cyclone moved near Zambales province, even as state weather forecasters warned of flash floods and landslides over extreme northern Luzon Wednesday afternoon. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the LPA was estimated at 510 km west southwest of Iba, Zambales as of 2 p.m. "Northern Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over extreme northern Luzon which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said in its 5 p.m. bulletin. It added the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Should the LPA become a cyclone while still inside Philippine territory, it will be locally codenamed "Sendong." PAGASA earlier said it expects two cyclones to enter Philippine territory this month. Meanwhile, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the east to southeast will prevail over Luzon and the Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. It added that winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to north with slight to moderate seas. — RSJ, GMA News
