PAGASA: Potential cyclone out of PHL but rain looms over Luzon

A low-pressure area (LPA) that was initially considered a potential cyclone left Philippine territory Thursday, but rain still looms over some parts of Luzon. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a wind convergence may bring rain to Eastern and Extreme Northern Luzon. “The LPA we had been monitoring has left the Philippine area of responsibility. It is not likely to affect any part of the country now," PAGASA forecaster Gener Quitlong said in an interview on dzBB radio. According to him, the weather system now prevailing in the country is a wind convergence, which is affecting eastern and Extreme Northern Luzon. The LPA would have been codenamed “Sendong" had it become a cyclone. PAGASA expects two cyclones to enter Philippine territory in November. “Eastern and Extreme Northern Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said even if the LPA did not develop into a cyclone the rain it triggered had caused at least one death. — LBG, GMA News
