Cherie Gil stars in stage play on immigrants' life in US

Veteran actress Cherie Gil starred in an award-winning stage play in the United States about the life of immigrants, the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago said. Bienvenido Noriega's play "Bayan-Bayanan" was staged in Chicago's St. Scholastica Academy Theater from November 11 to 13. It was directed by world-renowned Filipino playwright and director Dr. Anton Juan. "'Bayan-Bayanan' confronts the tender, painful contradictions of immigrant life with the edge of laughter and acceptance of human frailty. The story tackles the wave of the migration of Filipino overseas workers, where immigrant groups gather to rekindle life back home," the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said. "Although it is a play about Filipinos, it speaks to the world, where the history of migrants is a shared memory. It is a play about the dichotomy of flight, the quest for dreams, and the return to the nation's memory and origin," the DFA said. The "Bayan-Bayanan" play was produced by the Migrant Care Foundation, Migrant Moon and Education Resources, Inc. - VVP, GMA News
