Google+ rolls out trending topics

Seemingly taking a page from micro-blogging site Twitter, Google's upcoming social network Google+ has silently rolled out trending topics within Google+ Search. Tech site Mashable said the trending topics feature quietly rolled out Thursday night, listing 10 of the most popular discussion items on the social network. Clicking on a trending topic will launch a search query, Mashable said. Also, it said Google has rolled out some additional improvements to Google+ Search. Google+ Searches also now default to “most recent" rather than “best of," Mashable said. With the new features, Google+ users can now search within just their own posts, their circles or the entire Google+ network, even as the search page layout was changed with UI tweaks. Mashable noted Trending topics helped make Twitter a more relevant metric of what the world was talking about at any given moment. While Google has worked on trending with Google Trends and Hot Searches, the latest feature offers the ability to see what is truly trending in real time. — LBG, GMA News
