Security tight at Pasay City Hall for Arroyo case hearing

Police tightened security at the Pasay City Hall early Monday for the first hearing on the electoral sabotage charges lodged last week against former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. As of 8 a.m. Monday, the Pasay City police deployed several teams at the City Hall where the hearing was to be held, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported. The police teams in the area included members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, the report said. Pasay Judge Jesus Mupas, who was to handle the case lodged by the Commission on Elections against Mrs. Arroyo, arrived at his sala at 8:15 a.m. However, he did not immediately give any statement to media crews at the site, the report said. Mupas issued last Friday an arrest warrant against Mrs. Arroyo based on the case lodged by the Comelec against her earlier in the day. The Southern Police District in turn served the warrant on Mrs. Arroyo, but allowed her to stay at the St. Luke's Medical Center over the weekend. Electoral sabotage, when evidence of guilt is strong, is a non-bailable offense. — RSJ, GMA News
