Police on lookout vs fireworks sold in Divisoria

The Manila Police District said it is going to ensure that no pyrotechnics will be sold in Divisoria this Christmas season as shoppers flock to the famed bargain center in Manila. The MPD has coordinated with the Bureau of Fire Protection to find and seize these items from vendors in the Divisoria area, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported. Police are wary of fireworks accidentally causing fires especially in a crowded area like Divisoria, the dzBB report said. MPD spokesman Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo said they expect more shoppers in the Divisoria area at this time of year, as the Christmas shopping season starts to peak. He said MPD personnel in the area have instructions to keep watch over shoppers and traders alike. Earlier, the MPD said it is raising its alert against robbers and snatchers who may take advantage of the shopping season. Last week, MPD personnel in the city's Tondo district shot dead several suspected motorcycle-riding robbers in separate encounters. – KG/RSJ, GMA News
