2 killed, 21 hurt in road accident in Batangas

At least two people were killed while 21 others were injured along the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) in Batangas province on Monday morning after the pick-up truck they were riding went out of control due to a busted tire. SPO1 Marlon Petisanan of the Malvar (Batangas) police said the incident occurred at the northbound part of the road. "Sumabog ang kaliwang gulong sa likod. Umikot-ikot siya, nagtalsikan ang pasahero, mga sakay niya," he said in an interview over dzBB radio. The vehicle belonged to a private company, he said. All of the 23 passengers were rushed to the Mary Mediatrix and Lipa Medic hospitals. However, two of them, including the driver, died of multiple injuries. The police did not yet name the victims. Petisanan said the police are investigating why there were many passengers aboard the vehicle at the time of the accident. - VVP, GMA News
