Weather: Rain in NCR from amihan, to last 1-2 more days

The rain that fell on parts of Metro Manila before dawn Tuesday was from the northeast monsoon affecting Luzon and an inter-tropical convergence zone affecting Mindanao, state weather forecasters said. In a radio interview, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecaster Elvie Enriquez indicated that the rain may last "one to two" days. "Ito naman [ay] hindi magtatagal, mga one to two days. Wala tayong bagyo (It will not last long, just one to two days. We do not have any cyclone near Philippine territory)," Enriquez said in an interview on dzBB radio. She said the northeast monsoon has entered Philippine territory and is slowly prevailing over the entire Luzon area. Enriquez said "amihan" entered Philippine territory as early as last week but has so far affected only the northern Luzon area, including Baguio City. "Nag-umpisa siya sa norte pababa ng pababa, buong Luzon na ngayon prevailing na ang Amihan. Ang Baguio 12-13 na (It started in the north and is slowly settling down to prevail over Luzon. Baguio's temperature has gone down to 12 to 13 degrees Celsius)," she said. Flash floods, landslides Meanwhile, PAGASA warned of possible flash floods and landslides over the eastern parts of Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao. "Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon and Visayas which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. It added that the rest of Luzon will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas. Also, PAGASA said strong to gale-force winds associated with the surge of the northeast monsoon may affect the seaboards of Luzon and Eastern seaboards of Visayas. — RSJ, GMA News
