Cook stabs crewmember of foreign ship off La Union


A crewmember had to be evacuated from a foreign cargo vessel at about 3:13 a.m. on Sunday while the ship was some 500 yards north off Poro Point in San Fernando, La Union. The chief cook of the vessel, Rodolfo Reyes Jr., is now in police custody after stabbing fellow crewmember Leowie Villaruel, who sustained a wound in the lower left chest. The victim was brought to the La Union Medical Hospital for immediate medical treatment. The cook was relieved from his post and turned over to the Coast Guard,which brought him to the custody of the Poro Point Police Station for investigation. Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Algier Ricafrente cited initial reports indicating the incident occurred aboard the MV Apollo Sar at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday while the ship was heading for Yokohama. MV Apollo Sar is a Panamian vessel skippered by Captain Jouy Ordono. It came from Thailand and was en route to Yokohama, Japan. It is owned and operated by Bonanza Seiko Shipping, the Coast Guard said. - VVP, GMA News
