In Saudi, women may be asked to cover 'sexy eyes'

In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a new law may be enforced: women with sexy or attractive eyes may be asked to cover them up, a report of the news site Bikya Masr said. More than one million overseas Filipino workers are based in Saudi Arabia. This was revealed by a spokesperson of the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (CPVPV) in Saudi Arabia, Bikya Masr said. The CPVPV is the Saudi Arabian government bureaucracy employing "religious police" or "mutaween." Founded in 1940, it is tasked to ensure Islamic laws are not broken in public in the Islamic nation. The CPVPV has the right to stop women whose eyes seem “tempting" and order her to cover them immediately, the report said. Saudi women are already forced to wear an "abaya" or loose black dress when they are out in public. Failure to do so could mean fines or even worse, public lashings, the Bikya Masr report noted. The announcement came days after the Saudi newspaper al-Watan reported that a Saudi man was admitted to a hospital after fighting with a member of the CPVPV who ordered his wife to cover her eyes. The husband was allegedly stabbed twice in the hand. - VVP, GMA News
