Apalit, Pampanga bridge collapses as three dump trucks pass


A bridge in Apalit, Pampanga province collapsed on Wednesday morning as three dump trucks crossed over it. The drivers were unhurt. The three dump trucks were part of a convoy heading for Macabebe when the bridge at Colgante village in Apalit collapsed at about 10:15 a.m., police said. "Aming napagalaman may apat na dump truck papuntang Macabebe, dito sa dinadaanan ang Colgante Bridge. Ang naunang truck nakalipat pero ... itong tatlo na sumunod sa naunang truck ay na-trap sa loob ng Colgante Bridge nang ito ay bumigay," Apalit police head Superintendent Angelito Esteban said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Citing initial information reaching him, he said the bridge was about 10 feet above the water below. The trucks were carrying gravel at the time the bridge collapsed.
