Aparri, Gabuco outpoint rivals to win SEAG women's boxing gold

Alice Kate Aparri and Josie Gabuco outpointed their respective rivals to clinch the Philippines' first two gold medals in boxing in the Southeast Asian Games in Palembang, Indonesia. Aparri beat Thet Htar San of Myanmar in the 48kg division while Gabuco won over Vietnam's Trin Thi Diem Kie in the 46kg class to start the boxing team's quest for gold medals on a high note. Aparri and Gabuco also successfully defended their 2009 gold medals in Laos to retain their supremacy in Southeast Asia. Nesthy Petecio could not follow suit after bowing to Thailand's Laopeam Peamwlial in the 54kg finals. Dennis Galvan already assured the country of at least a silver medal in men's boxing after reaching the finals of the 64kg weight category. He will face Afdan Batchila of Indonesia in Monday's final. — JVP, GMA News
