Militants stage lightning rally at US Embassy in Manila

Tension gripped an area near the United States Embassy in Manila early Thursday morning after a group of protesters staged a lightning rally there.

 

The militants, who posed as joggers, scuffled briefly with anti-riot police who rushed to the area, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported.

 

No one was initially reported hurt even as police seized a red streamer from the militants, who were from the Kilusan Para sa Pambansang Demokrasya, the report said.

 

An initial investigation showed the militants managed to get near the embassy's main gate and unfurl their banner that contained anti-US slogans.

 

But anti-riot police in the area drove them away from embassy premises.

 

The embassy was closed for the day to mark Thanksgiving Day, a holiday in the US. — LBG, GMA News
