Ely Buendia now out of danger - band manager

The second angioplasty conducted on rock artist Ely Buendia was a success, Pupil band manager Day Cabuhat told GMANews.TV Wednesday. Cabuhat said Buendia is conscious after the operation and they have talked about what the singer-composer would eat. “He is allowed to eat anything, including steak," she said in a phone interview. Cabuhat said Buendia was brought out of the operating room of the Philippine Heart Center about 7:20 pm. The operation started early in the afternoon. “The operation was a super success," she said after talking with Buendia’s attending physician, Dr. Wilfred Dee. Quoting Dee, Cabuhat said Buendia is “totally out of danger and heart attack recurrence is not expected." Buendia was transferred to the PHC Tuesday evening for the second angioplasty. The first angioplasty was conducted at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa City. Cabuhat said that contrary to earlier information, three, not two, of Buendia’s arteries were blocked. She said these were all cleared after the operation. Buendia suffered acute myocardial infarction secondary to arterial blockage, which is a heart attack due to blocked arteries. “100 percent restored ang function ng heart…the doctor expects full recovery," Cabuhat said. She further said the singer-guitarist will have to stay overnight at the Intensive Care Unit and will be transferred to a regular room Thursday. Buendia can be discharged in a few days and would have to rest for a month. “He would be able to perform after that (rest)," Cabuhat said, expressing gratitude to all people who prayed for Buendia. “The last three days were the longest three days. Now, all our apprehensions are gone," she said. Buendia, who turned 36 last November 2, became popular as composer and lead singer of the Eraserheads back in the 1990s. Shortly before the Eraserheads disbanded, Buendia recorded a 10-song solo album, Wanted: Bedspacer. He then formed the short-lived band The Mongols, before forming Pupil, which broke into the music scene with the hit songs "Nasaan Ka," "Dianetic," and "Dulo ng Dila." They have just released their fourth single "Gamu-gamo" which is currently number 1 at NU 107's Stairway to Seven countdown. - GMANews.TV
