Pacquiao, Chavit, Iggy Arroyo in cock derby

Fililpino champion pugilist Manny Pacquiao is a big name not only in the boxing ring. He is also one of the considered heavyweights of the SJC 8 — Cock International Derby, which opens Monday, January 22, at the San Juan Coliseum. Pacquiao is expected to personally handle his entries - Super Pacman 1 and Super Pacman II — which he imported from Fresno, California, two years ago. Apart from Pacquiao, controversial ex-Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson and Wakee Salud have their own entries and will immediately face the PE San Pablo of defending champion Pol Estrellado. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's brother-in-law, Rep. Iggy Arroyo, is also a contender. Cockfighting afficionado will have a hard time choosing as to who they will support as "sabong idol" Patrick Antonio and Sweater specialists Sonny Lagon and Bruce Barnette of Alabama will also be competing. Lady cocker Kiana Borovies and Bryan Corkren of Alabama, the 2006 Kentuckey Sallie Gap 8-cock Derby champion, will face Mayor Dennis Pineda and Raymond Velayo while Joseph Toralba and James Sander will meet Ompong and Boyet Plaza of Agusan. Expected to provide tough competition are the entries of Congressman Arroyo, Mayor Jesry Palmares and Arnold Mendoza, the NCA World Championship Derby. The semifinals will be held this Wednesday and the Finals on Friday. - GMANews.TV
