Report: Pacquiao gunning for GenSan mayoralty race

Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao has decided to run for the mayoralty post in his home city of General Santos in Mindanao, QTV-11 television reported Wednesday night. In its evening newscast, QTV said Pacquiao is running under the Lakas-CMD banner, and that he believes he can be of help to residents in General Santos. Last week, Pacquiao was reported to have met with local leaders from the Lakas party, who encouraged him to run for mayor this May. He also said he has talked to his family and may consult with city mayor Pedro Acharon Jr., one of the godfathers at his wedding. Acharon earlier told Pacquiao, "welcome to the club" when he learned of Pacquiao's mayoralty plans. But the QTV report said Pacquiao may have a problem with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as he is still registered in Manila and he may not meet his one-year residency requirement in General Santos.- GMANews.TV
