Resort helper tagged in P1-M theft

The mother of a foreign national who lost P1 million in cash and valuables to thieves in Guimaras province Monday has tagged the resort owner’s helper as the culprit. Sun-Star Iloilo (www.sunstar.com.ph) reported Thursday that Pauline French, whose son Steve was one of the victims in the theft, claimed the helper had access to the guest room. Mrs. French said on local radio that she suspects resort owner Ann Saldaña’s helper Aida Rose "might be responsible" as her mother was called to massage the guests. She said that before the theft, her son and Jan Eric Olsen went swimming then later asked for the services of Aida Rose’s mother to massage them. Aida Rose reportedly entered their rented room to place mosquito nets over the bed. When Olsen and French went inside their room they went to sleep without inspecting their belongings until Monday morning, when these were already missing. As this developed, the regional police in Western Visayas sought the help of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to conduct a parallel investigation. Regional director Chief Superintendent Wilfredo Dulay said he has already directed Superintendent Renato Gumban to help the Guimaras police in the investigation. Dulay was irked after Sanson failed to give him results of the investigation two days after the incident. This prompted him to tap the services of the CIDG. Norwegian national Olsen, 37, and Filipino-Norwegian Steve French said their valuables and cash amounting to P1 million placed inside their rented cottage at the resort were missing. Dulay believes that the suspects could be employees of the resort. He said the culprits have knowledge of the victims’ valuables and big amount of money. "Everybody there is a suspect. It is possible that those responsible for the incident are just around the resort who have enough knowledge of where the victims are being billeted," Dulay added. Dulay also directed police to conduct an interrogation on the resort owner, her housemaid and other employees who were present before and after the incident. Initial investigation showed the two victims arrived in Guimaras on Jan. 19 for a vacation. It was their second time in the resort. - GMANews.TV
