Report: Nurse's blunder kills baby in Batangas

Medicine incorrectly administered by a student nurse killed a one-year-old baby confined at a government-run hospital in Batangas City, dzBB radio reported Tuesday. The report cited initial reports indicating that the baby, whose name was not immediately known, was brought to the hospital for loose bowel movement. It said the incident took place at the Batangas Regional Hospital in Cuta village in Batangas City, but did not specify when the baby died. According to the report, the student nurse administered the potassium chloride through direct injection instead of through an intravenous drip. Potassium chloride, used in lethal injection, can cause cardiac arrest if administered directly. The dzBB report said the hospital management is trying to convince the baby's family to accept a settlement. - GMANews.TV
