Philippine Agenda: Education


GMA News and Public Affairs starts airing on Sunday an eight-part program called Philippine Agenda, which goes beyond personalities in the May 14 elections to tackle key issues that confront the Philippines. Each week, Philippine Agenda will tackle problems concerning education, corruption, crime and justice, housing, job security in the Philippines and abroad, health, the environment, and hunger. GMA News and Public Affairs’ Mike Enriquez, Mel Tiangco, Jessica Soho, Arnold Clavio and Vicky Morales join forces to bring viewers Philippine Agenda. Philippine Agenda’s pilot episode on March 25 at 7 p.m. will discuss the current state of education. GMA News and Public Affairs’ says that, ultimately, elections would serve not the politicians’ agenda, but the agenda of the people. Senior staff of GMA News and Public Affairs researched the program’s episodes, gleaning facts from studies and the insight of experts. They also documented the situation of ordinary citizens on the ground. Viewers will find teachers, doctors, government officials, policemen, overseas contract workers whose lives whose affected by a lack of good governance. Philippine Agenda aims to help raise viewers’ level of concern and awareness on the country’s recurring problems so that, in turn, they can make sound choices come election day. GMA News and Pubic Affairs says that it hopes to make complex issues comprehensible and to put significant events in context, so that voters will know how this year’s elections would have an impact the nation. Philippine Agenda airs Sunday, 7 p.m., starting on March 25.
